Summer 2015 Anime Picks

That time again where I pick a bunch of shit that I end up hating, say I’m not gonna watch a bunch of shit I end up trying and loving, and say “maybe” to the shows that inevitably end up my favorite. LONG post – not in terms of length of reading, just because there’s so many images.

summer15a

Okusama ga Seito Kaichou! – Someone thought up the great idea of creating a new genre label for purely otaku-pandering shows: “erotic comedy”.

Chaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Sen’eki – I’m interested in this but it could very well be total shit. The whole mix of several big names (though most of them aren’t exactly talented and others have some moments of incredible ideas but a lifetime of terrible shit) and simply the idea behind the creation of it which sounds like it’s taking essentially a D&D scenario they developed while playing it or something makes it just an interesting idea.

Wooser – Wooser is fun and cute BUT I am way back like 5 episodes in to the original season which means this is a yellow really but in like years from now so who knows when.

Wakaba Girl – This will probably be bad but I saw that this girl is a fan of gal fashion which is something I totally fucking love to see girls in, so if this somehow incorporates that at all and isn’t total shit I could watch it slowly over time if it’s alright.

summer15b

Teekyuu – Another show I simply am way too behind on, though actually in this case I haven’t watched any of it but always have planned to.

Jitsu wa Watashi wa – I don’t remember why but I am familiar with this green haired girl and I feel like I heard good things about this manga, so I’ll give it a try. Vampires have also been doing great by me lately so I have no reason not to expect more good experiences from vampire stuff from Japan.

Kaijuu – No thanks.

Gakkou Gurashi! – This is one I’ve been looking forward to since it originally got announced awhile back, the concept seems great. It’s moe school girls who are simply having a fun little life while surviving a post zombie apocalypse. It’s also written by a writer from Nitro+, so it could be a lot more than just a very unique slice of life.

summer15cDragonball – No.

Ranpo Kitan – No.

Aoharu x Kikanjuu – I’m a big fan of reverse trap stuff ever since Hana Kimi was originally being released in English and is still something I see as one of the best manga out there, let alone one of the best shoujo, so that part of what I know about this really grabbed me and originally had me excited. Then I noticed the retarded survival game shit, which fine whatever…and then I noticed the “and an ero-manga artist” which made me pretty much lose all interest. I’m just still going to give it a try anyway but it seems like this is just going to end up another – what was it – “erotic comedy”?

Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri – I’ve long wished to write a story very similar to the summary of this, some kind of mix of the real modern world and fantasy medieval stuff in a similar way of literal worlds being mixed. Because of that I’m pretty excited to try this out and I REALLY hope it turns out good and doesn’t go the way of trashy shit with ecchi or a harem or something. If this sticks to those genres in that image then this could be fantastic but that “otaku soldier” and the cute girls worry me.

“Thanks to their efforts in humanitarian relief, although with some difficulties they were gradually able to reach out to the locals. They even had a cute elf, a sorceress and a demigoddess in their circle of new friends. On the other hand, the major powers outside the Gate such as the United States, China, and Russia were extremely interested in the abundant resources available in the Special Region. They began to exert diplomatic pressure over Japan.

A suddenly appearing portal to an unknown world—to the major powers it may be no more than a mere asset for toppling the international order. But to our protagonists it is an invaluable opportunity to broaden knowledge, friendship, and ultimately their perspective towards the world.”

They didn’t even try hiding their “Japan is superior and a wonderfully peaceful nation and the white man is the true plague of the Earth” propaganda bullshit.

summer15d

Junjou Homo Tripple Dongers – No.

Monster Musume – I don’t really want a show of this, but I’ll SOME DAY try it probably. Probably not now.

Hetalia: Faggotry Again – No.

Charlotte – PA Works doing some kind of wannabe Shitdex? Sure, I’ll try it.

summer15e

Shimoneta to lu this name is long enough to tell you this anime is total shit – the summary makes that clear too.

Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX – Never watched the original.

Himouto! Umaru-chan – LOOKS CUTE. LOOKS REAL CUTE.

To Love-Ru is super interesting.

summer15f

Bikini Warriors – THE SUMMARY SAYS IT ALL. BEAUTIFUL BREASTS. ENORMOUS BREASTS. BIKINI ARMOR. AND LOOK AT THAT HAIR, SHE’S CUTE AS SHIT AND SHE’S BARELY DRESSED AND HAS ENORMOUS TITS. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

Overlord – THE MOST POWERFUL WIZARD.

Akagami no Shirayuki-Hime – This looks like it could be really good. The art is super cute, the story sounds similar (though not in the actual way things pan out) to some kind of more romantic cute version of Akatsuki no Yona. I’m looking forward to trying it and just from this chart this is probably the one I’m looking forward to trying out the most aside the zombie school girls and Working!!!

summer15g

Danchigai – At first I thought this would be incest harem shit, but seeing the two sisters in the back being so young and nowhere mentioning it as being those things it actually might be a cute fun show and if so it could be great. Also, like a few shows this season, it’s made by some studio I’ve never heard of so that’s kind of fun in its own way.

Miss Monochrome – Never watched the original.

Classroom Crisis – The purple haired girl is really cute and the dude actually looks kind of cool. The summary sounds like it could be nice and the characters actually looking like highschoolers surprised me so much that I thought they were college students until re-reading that just while writing this. Romcoms are when not paired with other shitty genres typically pretty great, so this could be very much my type of show depending how it pans out.

God Eater – Never played the game aside a bit of a demo for that Rage Burst 2 or whatever with the super cute tomboy who has like 8 hairpins on her super short hair and a giant hammer. UFOtable is animating this though so it’ll be beautiful, and I am genuinely interested in the games so I figure there’s no reason not to watch this.

summer15h

Non Non Biyori Repeat – Season 1 was great…until they introduced a 1-note character with no worth or value who took over the entire show with her literal 1 trait. The moment she was essentially made the main character it really ruined the show. I don’t want a repeat, let alone a season 2, and I know this is season 2 titled repeat – but that just shows another problem. This is probably going to be exactly that; a repeat of the same fucking godawful jokes that were repeated about 1500 times every episode. It’s a terrible series and I have no intention of watching yet another season of it.

Million Doll – Sounds fucking stupid.

Idolmaster – The home console games are fun, nothing else about IM@S is good, nor the culture it spawned.

Fate/Pedoshit Softcore Pornography

summer15i

Durarara!! x2 Ten – I actually have a review of the last season (of this season which is a continuation of season 2 rather than a season 3?) that I just haven’t bothered finishing, but I’ll just summarize. Durarara 2’s first season was alright, not great at all – not even close – but alright. No reason not to continue.

Joukamachi no Dandelion – I’m very afraid of the places this could go in terms of ecchi and retarded bullshit like that, I’ll just drop it if it goes that way. However, if it doesn’t it could be fun.

Gatchaman Crowds insight – I want to watch the first season because it takes place entirely in Tachikawa, the actual home of Academy City. It’s always interesting to see more of that place both in other anime and in real life videos and photos, plus it seems alright, but yeah. I haven’t seen 1 so I can’t watch 2.

Makura no pretend boyfriend

summer15j

Gangsta. – Shit dawg you down to watch this shit mang? ye. ye.

Rokka no Yuusha – The basic idea of this is that out of 7 main cast members one of them is actually a bad guy all along. I REALLY hope they don’t just tell us who it is and let the viewer “play along” with trying to piece together who it is. And by “don’t just tell us” I mean DON’T MAKE IT STUPIDLY FUCKING OBVIOUS. Problem is anime has a massive problem being subtle or tossing red herrings around, but I mean if it doesn’t do all the retarded shit almost all “mystery” anime does then this could be really great.

Aquarion Logos – That previous season pissed me off and this one would too.

Kuusen – MAGICAL. ARMORED. INSECTS.

summer15k

Working!!! – I fucking love this franchise and I really hope very fucking much that we finally see Inami get her happy ending even though the boy she loves is total shit. She’ll never overcome such a severe mental disability but she found a guy who at least, regardless of all his shittiness, is willing to live with that. This is a comedy and all, but it’s always had her and her romance leading the actual story bits, and I’d like to see a conclusion finally. No matter what though I can’t imagine this season not being a third season of consistent greatness with a fantastic cast and the always fun chemistry between them all. I’ve been excited for this since they announced it like a year and a half ago, can’t wait till it starts.

Venus Project – No.

Ushio to Tora – Maybe? Why not?

WAKAKO-ZAKE – WHAT IS THIS LITTLE CREATURE? AND WHY IS SHE SO LONELY THAT SHE HAS TO GO OUT EVERY NIGHT TO GET PLASTERED? IS THAT WHAT MADE HER BECOME A LITTLE ALIEN? I DON’T KNOW BUT SHE’S CUTE I’M GONNA WATCH THIS.

summer15l

Kangoku Gakuen – I enjoyed the manga quite a bit until the recent story arc started. Back when the boys were all in prison it was great borderline hentai that was top of it’s class at “teasing” but what really set it apart was that it was a legitimately funny and intriguing story with a great cast and some fantastic little scenes. Problems here are 1. how good will this look and will they maintain that top notch lewdness without underdoing it or over doing it? Unlike something like Triage X which was a complete failure the moment they went cheap on the art and also censored the fuck out of it like crazy (more than any other modern show does even) and has NOTHING ELSE worthwhile – Kangoku Gakuen will still be watchable even if it’s not great for the penis. And 2. Will this continue into the shit the manga is now or will it only cover the first very long story arc?

Sore ga Seiyuu! – This will be as accurate to voice acting as Shirobako (literally not at all accurate!) but it could be fun, and I think it’s one of those not short-length shows so why not.

summer15msummer15n

Three obvious ones and A SUPER OBVIOUS BUT I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT IT – HANAKANA PLAYIN THE ROLE OF HANAKANA WHO IS HELPING ON A FARM FULL OF CUTE LITTLE ANIMALS WHO HELP HER HELP AT THE FARM. THIS IS PURITY AND SWEETNESS IN ANIME FORM AND EVEN THE LITTLE TRAILER AWHILE BACK WAS JUST GREAT.

I just wanted to point out that pedo thing – it literally is! It’s about a man who becomes a child again and goes around very literally molesting or having consensual sex/mutual masturbation sessions with various girls in his elementary school boy body. I’m not exaggerating or making that up. If you have disgusting fucking fantasies that you never got to live out of fucking your classmates when you were 10 years old and want to jerk off to thoughts of doing it even now, then this is the show for you, otherwise I’m pointing it out SO THAT ANYBODY THAT ISN’T FUCKING TERRIBLE WILL KNOW NOT TO TOUCH IT.

summer15osummer15p

Forgot to mark it, but of course the AOT thing is a green. Aside that, Taifuu no Noruda I’m interested in based entirely on the art. Bakemono no Ko, however, is something I’m interested in thanks to the art style and director. Honestly this guy hasn’t done SHIT good aside Tokikake…but I still hold out hope hell make something amazing again. I also just might watch that new Ghost in the Shell – given I hate absolutely everything GitS because it’s total shit but like the new art style at least and wanted to give it another chance at not being total garbage. I’m too lazy to sit through 4 movies and this is just them in series format so I might try it.

Well that’s all unless this retard who makes these charts needs to make a version 3 – version 1 didn’t even have shit on it that was announced over a year ago for summer 2015 so I wouldn’t be surprised if he fucked up some more with this version as well.

  1. As a Dragon Ball fan, I can already tell the new movie and series will suck tremendously. Toriyama has made it abundantly clear time and time again he doesn’t give the slightest fuck about what happens with his own story, and this should prove no exception.

Working!!!, Himouto!, Gatchaman Crowds, Gangsta, Rokka no Yusha, Ushio to Tora and Wakako-Zakae look like they might be interesting but the rest of the TV series look meh at best. Some of the new movies might be cool though, and Boruto might be good for drunk laughs with friends.

    • I’m fortunate enough to have hated dragonball in all its forms from the very beginning, so I’ve managed to avoid all the terrible stuff about Toriyama and how he’s let the series get. I feel like almost every really long battle-shounen ends up with that same issue of a creator who no longer gives a shit at some point.

Working!!! is the third season of a show so make sure you’ve seen the first two before jumping in if you haven’t.

      • I still rewatch the original Dragon Ball on the odd occasion but yeah, I can understand that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and that you have to be in a certain mood to really enjoy it. Toriyama openly admitted to flat-out not giving a shit after the Frieza saga but honestly, I think he stopped caring long before that, it just wasn’t as noticeable until then.

And you’re right about it being issue to that plagues the majority of shounen works, because after a while the authors run out of ideas and are pressured by the old powers that be at Weekly Shounen Jump to either continue their series or take a hike. The only exception is Togashi, and that’s only because Yu Yu Hakusho was the only anime (in as far as I know) which surpassed DBZ in ratings during their original TV runs, which was a huge deal back in the 90s. Even though the final arc was kind of weak but fortunately it ended before things got really out of hand. Unfortunately I think they gave him too much leeway to bum around doing literally nothing at all for far too long and far too often.

As for Working!!! I have the first two seasons on my backlog.

  2. Hey Tallon, I wish you would try to find the time to watch the first season of Gatchman! Maybe you’d like it because I know I did!

    • I’m not exactly a fan of superhero shit let alone the Japanese-y sentai looking stuff like this, so it makes it kind of hard to try it out. I’m open to trying stuff I don’t outright hate (and even some things that are within the bounds of things I hate) but it definitely is a lot more effort to get myself to do so.
